POVERTY AWARENESS WALK

This winter, there has been a significant increase in the number of homeless people who have died on our city streets. Please join us as we walk the streets of Toronto and learn more about some of the realities of homelessness.

Our time together will include preparing and distributing sandwiches.

Meet at the cafeteria at 1pm to help prepare the sandwiches.

YOUTH FOR OTHERS SOCIAL JUSTICE DAY

Canadian Jesuits International, in co-sponsorship with The Mary Ward Centre, will bring
together high school students for a unique day of learning, reflection and solidarity around international social justice. 


The theme this year is ‘Uprooting Injustice’. This day of learning, reflection and workshops, will leave students with an understanding of the inseparable link between faith and the promotion of justice. It will also encourage students to
consider how they can be ‘youth for others’ and work for justice in solidarity with the poor and marginalized at home and in our global community.

THE LOOKING ForWARD CONFERENCE

A Day of Mentorship in Action:
Conference includes keynote speaker and breakout sessions.


Students will have the opportunity to engage in mentorship from women who are currently doing work in which they have the needs of the greater community in mind.  Students will learn from, dialogue with, and network with these women as a means to get to know what their own gifts are and how they can be used to do good.

Through the telling of stories, the sisters will provide meaningful mentorship for Loretto Abbey students. We will celebrate this journey with afternoon tea on May 13th.

FAITH ALLIANCE TO END HUMAN TRAFFICKING

For the 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games in Toronto, The Faith Alliance to End Human Trafficking will build a gift box as an interfaith response to human trafficking. This box will be uniquely Canadian in its content with references to local stories of human trafficking and Canadian human trafficking legislation.

  • Fouad Nakhla, SJ is a Jesuit priest from Syria, who has worked in Damascus with the Jesuit Refugee Service.
  • Loae Almously is from Syria, has worked with the Jesuit Refugee Service in Jordan, and came to Canada this year as a refugee.
  • Miriam Lopez-Villegas is the CJI International Programs Coordinator, with several years of experience in humanitarian work, including serving Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan.
