December 15th, 2015:Students from Loretto Abbey, SHSM (Specialist High School Major Non-profit) TCDSB attended an Ethical Considerations Certificate Program. Students were challenged to consider ethical considerations in the movement from charity to justice.
December 8th, 2015: Over a hundred Neil McNeil students gathered together for their Gr. 12 Retreat at the Mary Ward Centre. Through interactive workshops and activities, students were invited to reflect upon the words of Pope Francis, "For we know that things can change".
December 1st, 2015: Students from Madonna CSS, SHSM (Specialist High School Major Non-profit) TCDSB attended an Ethical Considerations Certificate Program. Students were challenged to consider ethical considerations in the movement from charity to justice.
November 19th, 2015:Students from Dante Alighieri Academy, SHSM (Specialist High School Major Non-Profit) TCDSB attended an Ethical Considerations Certificate Program. Students were challenged to consider and examine both local and global injustices in our world.
November 3rd, 2015:As the December World Climate Summit in Paris approaches, we heard from panel speakers and discussed opportunities for religious communities to add their voices to the call for new measures to mitigate climate change. Also discussed were the ways religious communities can contribute to ecological justice in the months and years ahead.
October 18th, 2015: Wonderful celebration with all the partners and volunteers for their commitment to the GIFT Box during the 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games in Toronto.
October 15th, 2015: One hundred and thirty students from a variety of TCDSB/SHSM Secondary Schools participated in a conference on The Earth Charter. Stephen B. Scharper and Roberto Chiotti’s keynote addresses focused on The Earth Charter and Laudato Si. This event was held at Don Bosco Secondary School.
October 13th, 2015: Bishop Allen students begin their formation for a March break immersion trip to Guatemala with a retreat day at the Mary Ward Centre. The day provided an opportunity for participants to learn about one another and about our global reality, particularly the enormous economic gaps in our world. They were introduced to Mary Ward and the charism of the Loretto Sisters, the Sustainable Development Goals, Laudato Si and The Earth Charter.
July through August, 2015:For the 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games in Toronto, The Faith Alliance to End Human Trafficking built a gift box as an interfaith response to human trafficking. Located outside St. James Cathedral, visitors learn about the horrible realities that trafficked persons face and are empowered to take action against trafficking.
June 20th, 2015: IBVM Associates and Sisters gathered at Maryholme to share meaningful discussions on Pope Francis' newest encyclical and the Jesuit Forum's workbook Living With Limits, Living Well!
June 2nd - June 4th, 2015: Organized by the Canadian Religious Conference, more than 100 people from across Canada took part in the National CRC-JPIC Gathering in Toronto. Under the theme "All Is One: Weaving A Single Cloth For Justice", men and women religious participated in this two-day conference with keynote speaker Carol Zinn, SSJ, Ph.D.
Looking ForWARD Conference May 5th, 2015: Loretto Abbey’s 2nd Annual Looking ForWARD Conference. Organized by the GPP Leadership and Mentorship classes – a subject major of the Non-Profit SHSM Program – this was a day of celebration, mentorship, and empowerment.
April 21st, 2015: Students from Loretto Abbey and Henry Carr, SHSM (Specialist High School Major Non-profit) TCDSB attended an Ethical Considerations Certificate Program. Students were challenged to consider ethical responses to local and global injustices in our world.
March 5th, 2015: TCDSB students came together to participate in an engaging conference with guest speaker Stephen Scharper. The conference focused on themes of degrowth, ecological and spiritual awareness and positive change.
February 8th, 2015: Loretto College residents prepared and distributed lunches for homeless individuals in downtown Toronto. This experience included time for learning and reflection on the complex realities of poverty.
