The Mary Ward Centre proudly presents a video from our anti-Human Trafficking campaign to celebrate Human Rights Day. Human Trafficking is pervasive in our society and often hides in the shadows. This video was created to raise awareness across generations about Human trafficking and what we can do to stop it in its tracks. Now more than ever, we must commit to recognizing the signs and acting.
Human Trafficking Prevention Awareness
The Mary Ward Centre is committed to ending human trafficking in Canada. Part of this commitment consists of raising awareness about the problem of human trafficking in
Canada, which largely remains hidden. Learn more about the prevalence of human trafficking
through our awareness campaign.

"The chains are too tight, loosen them up a bit please!"
- Saint Josephine Bakhita's words in the last hours of her life, apparently remembering her slavery.
"The chains are very tight...", is the cry of thousands of people who to this day suffer the tragedy of slavery through human trafficking, whether as labour exploitation, sex trafficking, begging, organ trafficking, child marriage or any other modality that exposes people to forced work and deprives them of their dignity, rights and freedom of decision.
"...loosen them up a bit, please!" This cry represents a challenge for us today. We are all called to act to end human trafficking and bring healing to survivors.

End human trafficking!
-a commitment for all-
-a commitment for all-
The Mary Ward Centre as part of the Collaborative Network to End Exploitation - CNEE is aware that across Canada, immigrant workers perform essential jobs and contribute to Canadian communities. However, many of them have been denied rights such as receiving benefits that other workers receive such as changing employers, receiving a pension or, applying for permanent residency after many years of working in Canada. Temporary workers can easily lose their status and be deported, in addition to being exposed to unlawful working conditions that put them in a condition of labour exploitation.
