About the Role
Join a meaningful initiative focused on reducing homelessness and ensuring safe shelter. We seek a dedicated, socially conscious student to support communications and youth engagement, building popular support for CrisisInOurCity.ca. This role offers hands-on experience contributing to real impact. Note, this position is funded by the Toronto Community Counts Foundation.
Key Responsibilities
Communications: Develop a social media campaign to promote awareness of Crisis in Our City and action to ensure safe shelter for unhoused persons.
Graphic Design: Create social media posts, posters and handouts (eg cards, pamphlets) for outreach. Assist in the development of slides for school workshops.
Video Production: Create short videos for social media, information and story-telling
Website: Support in designing content for, and managing, the Crisis in Our City website.
Coordinating School Visits: Assist in the coordination and/or facilitation of high school workshops on the issue.
Core Goals for the Position
Build public support and advocacy through communication.
Share the impact of homelessness through storytelling.
Create material for awareness on “How/who/why people are sleeping on the street?”
Help facilitate information sharing with community partners.
Qualifications
Current or recent college/university student (related fields preferred but not required).
Strong interest in homelessness, housing justice, and social equity.
Knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, Canva, Google Suite,
Highly motivated, reliable, organized, and able to work independently and in a team.
Preferred Assets
Experience in community outreach or volunteer work.
Skills in graphic design, social media, or content creation.
Compassion and calm in emotional or high-stress situations.
Knowledge of local service networks (training provided).
