About the Role

Join a meaningful initiative focused on reducing homelessness and ensuring safe shelter. We seek a dedicated, socially conscious student to support advocacy and outreach, building popular support and community partnerships for CrisisInOurCity.ca. This role offers hands-on experience contributing to real impact. Note, this position is funded by the Toronto Community Counts Foundation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Advocacy:  Help provide content to develop communications material (e.g. social media, print)

  • Outreach & Engagement: Participate in on-site outreach; help distribute information on services and resources.

  • Partnership Building: Support communication with local organizations, service providers, and volunteer groups.

  • Logistics & Coordination: Assist in organizing advocacy materials; support data entry and administrative tasks.


Core Goals for the Position

  • Build public support for advocacy work.

  • Engage those affected by homelessness (e.g., small businesses, residents).

  • Generate ideas to ask, “Why are people sleeping on the street?”

  • Learn from other advocates and capture personal stories.


Qualifications

  • Current or recent college/university student (related fields preferred but not required).

  • Strong interest in homelessness, housing justice, and social equity.

  • Good communication skills; comfortable interacting respectfully with vulnerable populations.

  • Highly motivated, reliable, organized, and able to work independently and in a team.


Preferred Assets

  • Experience in community outreach or volunteer work.

  • Skills in graphic design, social media, or content creation.

  • Compassion and calm in emotional or high-stress situations.

  • Knowledge of local service networks (training provided).
