Growing in Knowledge with Justice and Hope.

Seventy-five teachers from Bishop Allen Academy recently gathered for a staff retreat focused on the theme “Growing in Knowledge with Justice and Hope.” Inspired by the Toronto Catholic School Board's Pastoral Plan, the day was a meaningful journey of reflection and renewal.

Facilitators Deacon Robert Kinghorn and Prakash Lohale, OP, guided the staff through a series of engaging sessions. Prakash Lohale explored the critical difference between charity and justice, challenging educators to consider systemic change. Deacon Kinghorn followed with powerful stories from his work on the streets, bringing themes of resilience and hope to life.

These insights were put into practice during breakout groups, where teachers collaborated on ways to translate compassion into action within the school community.

The retreat concluded with a celebratory Mass at Holy Angels Church, presided over by Rev. Bruno Kesangana Nandaba. In his homily, Father Bruno inspired all present by reaffirming that teaching is a sacred vocation, not just a job, and encouraged the staff to embrace life's transitions as opportunities for growth.

Sent forth with a renewed sense of mission, the staff returned to their classrooms equipped not only as educators but as compassionate leaders, ready to anchor knowledge in the pillars of justice and hope.
