Mary Ward was born in England in 1585 at a time when Catholics were persecuted and women were expected to marry or join a cloistered convent. Yet Mary Ward followed God’s call to journey inward and outward, choosing a different way to live out her faith and vocation — one that transformed the lives of many and still does so today with the legacy of her wondrous work.

Seventy-five teachers from Bishop Allen Academy recently gathered for a staff retreat focused on the theme “Growing in Knowledge with Justice and Hope.” Inspired by the Toronto Catholic School Board's Pastoral Plan, the day was a meaningful journey of reflection and renewal.

The challenge is clear. We are called to be a “Church on the Street,” ensuring that when our brothers and sisters in need knock on the doors of our hearts and our communities, they find not just aid, but a true welcome. They must find a place where they belong, where their hope is nourished, and where their God-given dignity is affirmed.
