One of the world's most important sporting events is approaching, and Canada will host 13 matches. Events of this magnitude involve enormous risks.

To prevent human trafficking, the message from the Mary Ward Centre is to prepare your participation in the event's activities in advance, stay informed through reliable sources about them, costs, access routes, schedules, etc., plan how to enjoy the event and its activities ahead of time, and attend in a group with people you know well. These are some of our recommendations to avoid becoming a victim of human trafficking.

To prevent labour exploitation, remember that even for short-term jobs, you must receive legal compensation and have an employment contract (written or verbal) in accordance with Canadian law and ILO international standards.

We are grateful to The Catholic Register for highlighting this crucial work and the collaboration between organizations across Canada preparing prevention strategies ahead of the 2026 World Cup. In their article, "World Cup prep targets trafficking", the publication explores how awareness, education, and community responsibility are essential to preventing human trafficking and labour exploitation before they happen.

👉 We invite you to read and share the article from The Catholic Register and help us continue spreading information that protects people and strengthens safer communities.
